What is Squid Proxy ?
Squid is a daemon which is used as a proxy server and web cache. Squid has many types of use, from speeding up a web server by caching repeated requests, DNS caching, caching web site, caching and searching computers on the network for a group of computers that use the same network resources, to help security by filtering (filter) traffic. Although it is often used for the FTP and HTTP protocols,
Squid also offers limited support for several other protocols including the Transport Layer Security (TLS), Secure Sockets Layer (SSL), the Internet Gopher, and HTTPS. Squid version 3.1 includes the IPv6 protocol support and the Internet Content Adaptation Protocol (ICAP)
What is Proxy Server?
A proxy server is a server that helps us to maintain our privacy in accessing the Internet. When we access the Internet using a proxy, web page we visit will not be able to see us. The Web page will see only the proxy we use only. Proxy server operates as follows. Client connected to a proxy server, and request specific services such as a file, connection, web page or other access. Proxy server then evaluates the request such services in accordance with the rules of the filter. For example, a proxy server can filter traffic based on IP address or protocol. If the request is validated by the filter, then the proxy will provide what was requested by connecting to the requested server and request services from server to client.
If proxy can speed up the internet?
Depending on the system used, the proxy if a proxy that is used to cache websites, then it could be used to speed up access to the internet because the website accessed dicache in hard drive will, but usually these systems are only used by the local proxy, the proxy instead of the remote server as sold by us. We don't do proxy caches data that has already been accessed website, so for speed issues is not so influential against the use of our proxy. In particular, the use of proxy connection we can improve (not accelerate) because internet access is no longer using the DNS of YOUR ISP you use.
